Sometimes, it takes a change in the weather, noticing a few more leaves scattered across the ground, or simply finding yourself yearning to snuggle under the duvet to realise that summer is coming to an end - it definitely felt like that today.
For the first time since June, the temperature dropped below 20 degrees — and it rained. Suddenly, it felt like autumn.
As the light changes from the long, bright days of summer to the softer, darker evenings of autumn, our colour palettes naturally begin to change too. The colours become moodier, warmer and deeper. And this is where burgundy flowers really come into their own.
Paloma Lily has always loved burgundy. It works beautifully with rich orange and cerise, but it also offers a wonderful way to bring one of summer's most popular colours — blush pink — into the autumn months. Burgundy is also a bang-on-trend interior colour, complementing warm browns, earthy greens and soft camel tones. It is rich without feeling heavy adding depth and warmth to both floral arrangements and interiors.
Our much-loved Neroli & Rosewood scented candle is even dressed for the season, with its burgundy label and box finished with gold foil. Now you know why!

When the seasons change, it grounds us. And that is particularly true for florists. The floral industry can sometimes feel like it's out of step with nature. Armed with an excellent, reliable, quality flower supplier, as we have, it is possible to buy an autumnal hydrangea in June or a tulip in September. The urge to step outside the seasons is palpable and sometimes unavoidable, clients have preferences often rooted in sentiment, but despite this we believe there is something special about allowing each season to have its moment.
Summer has its exuberance, its lightness and its abundance. Autumn brings depth, warmth and richness. And rather than rushing towards the next season, perhaps we should simply pause and enjoy the one we're in - there will always be another season waiting for us over the horizon.
